It's a good luck day I guess... the wind got gusty and dropped the kite about a block and a half away, with the string over several tall trees. Luckily the kite was easily accessible, so I just disconnected the swivel and folded up the kite. (The backyard of our local phone switch building thing, where the kite ended up is shown at the bottom of picture 8)
However, as you can see by these pictures, the camera was caught toward the top of one of the tall trees, an oak apparently (maybe even a pin oak...)
After realizing the camera rig was stuck, I carefully pulled the block-long kite line, feeling the camera getting held and released from branches and a roof... eventually the little camera hopped over the top center of the biggest tree around (the big tree in the background of photos 16 through 28), then became loose, where the weight of the camera would take any slack I gave it. So I did give it slack, hoping it would end up hanging, easily accessible, in the center of a street or something.
Almost. It was resting safely on an easily accessible roof.
Today: no loss.
Incedentially, it's possible to see three mylar helium balloons which were caught in the same area of trees in pictures 14 through 21
